Today I feel the need to rant a bit. I am SO MAD at the lead companies who scam people out of their money. It really makes me fuming Mad. I will do some EFT after I finish writing this post. 😉
I really love the freedom I have because of network marketing and I want to see other people experience that too. I just got off the phone with yet another network marketer who WASTED his money on bad leads. He starts right off saying, “Melodie, I am calling because you filled out a form online to learn how to recruit people for your network marketing business.”
HA! That immediately tells me he has either bought bad leads or he’s just a liar using that line on people he hopes to recruit. I know I never filled out a form like that. I have been successfully recruiting for over 20 years with one company. I currently sponsor more people in my primary company in one week than most network marketing distributors sponsor in their entire network marketing life. I did NOT fill out a form like that.
I’m actually impressed that the guy called me himself rather than the automatic recorded message caller thingy most people are using these days. Either way they waste money. Since the very early days in my business I looked for ways to get people to come to me. I admit, I did try some leads many years ago. I’m sure there are probably some lead companies out there that are really trying to provide good leads but really, how can you tell. I found the leads I spent a lot of money on to be almost as bad.
Another thing that makes me fuming mad is the way the many hopeful network marketers who bought my son Brandon’s name as a lead are getting ripped off. I get postcards and direct mail every week for him. Guess WHAT!! Brandon hasn’t lived here in more than 15 years!! Get that: 15 YEARS! They are still selling his name as a lead!
The best leads are the ones YOU generate through your own marketing. Wouldn’t it be better to take the money you waste on bad leads and use it on some real ads that get real people to your web site? Wouldn’t you rather have people call YOU about your business? Wouldn’t it be better to get emails from people with questions? This is another reason YOU SHOULD HAVE A BLOG! Wouldn’t it be better to have those people who came to your web site subscribe to your blog and get every update about building a business or how to use oils?
There are LOTS of ways to get people to your web site or blog, both free and paid for. It’s called Attraction Marketing.
Attraction Marketing is more than just marketing techniques. It’s a mindset. It’s a whole approach to your business. When you are not chasing people, you radiate an energy that attracts people. It’s called Law of Attraction. When you chase people, you repel people. You will have a struggle all the way.
It doesn’t have to be a struggle! You can love marketing if you learn to do it right. When you put Attraction Marketing and Law of Attraction together it’s a beautiful thing.
I’m sorry. I have been a bit on a rant today but I love this industry and I hate seeing people struggle needlessly.
I’m off to do some EFT on my feelings about this issue. Can’t let it become a block to my business. 😉

i completly agree with you i also hate company’s that make loads of peoplewho really want to make money
I agree Melodie. Attraction Marketing is very important. A few years ago, when buying leads was popular, I tried it twice and what a waste of money! Now there are many lead generation companies and many use them but I am using Attraction Marketing without being in these groups for now. Will I ever join? Not sure but definitely not right now.
Great post!
Great post Melodie and everyone is allowed a rant now and again. But it is so true what you are saying. I have done the same myself in the past but with all the help and training from MLSP I am on the right track. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Melodie,
I usually ignore the lower energies but yep, this cheeses me off too.
Attract leads. Do not repel leads. Do not buy leads, because in most cases, bought leads are bad leads. These are not targeted, or are simply tire kickers, looking for pennies, by clicking emails.
Make money in network marketing by bringing value to the table. Position yourself. The more value you give in the form of helpful, usable content, the more value you receive in the form of leads, money, and a prospering, growing team.
Thanks Melodie!
Ryan
There are some good leads out there but they are not not the cheap ones. It’s far better to generate them yourself.
Hi Melodie,
I completely agree that these lead companies now-a-days are just ripping people off.
When I was just starting out I bought some leads most of them weren’t any good. And those that might have had potential didn’t want to start a business.
That why when I heard of MLSP and Magnetic Sponsoring I was ecstatic. The thought of generating my own leads. What a concept!
Great post and a even better rant! Thanks Melodie. 🙂
I’ve never come across these leads for sale here in Australia, but I do know that every single person I’ve ever spoken to about it all say the exact same thing that you’ve just written in your post. I’d much rather be generating leads specifically targeted to my own business rather than some outdated list of names who haven’t heard of me and probably haven’t heard of whatever company I’m promoting.
Hi, Melodie,
A great post! I have bought leads before and have those ‘tyre kickers’! I agree that some did not even recall having requested for more information about working from home! Having gone through those painful prospecting experiences, however, has helped me to connect even better with others 🙂
In a few occasions, I managed to ask the ‘stranger’ if he or she had any interest in exploring a home-based opportunity. I got receptive ‘strangers’ checking out what I had to offer. Interesting leraning experience 🙂
I totally agree that having our own leads is a much better option! Attraction marketing as a mindset! What great insights!
I appreciate your sharing, Melodie.

Loved your rant, as it is so true.
So far, I have not yet bought any leads and believe,as you do, that Attraction Marketing is the only way.
So right George. Attraction marketing is the only way to insure you have good lead.
It really is sad how most lead companies operate. I honestly think some of these companies are simply scraping leads online. I get calls constantly from people trying to prospect me, and like you, I know I didn’t fill out their form! I know there are some good lead companies out there, but generating your own is really the way to go.

So true Angel.
Wow Melodie, this is a great article. To cut my long comment short, self-generated leads will always outbeat the bought ones, hands down. Yes, it does take effort at first, but once you have the ball rolling and a system in place, it becomes much easier!
I have never purchased leads for my Network Marketing business because I have been on the wrong side of that dead end game. For some reason someone has put me on a list so now I get calls all the time from people asking me to join their business or buy this product or that tool to help me increase sales. I hate checking my voice mail every day only to hear another salesman pitch their latest and greatest. I much prefer attraction marketing principles, where I can go out and find the very kind of product and service I am looking for. I am trying to implement these tactics in my own business.
Thanks for this valuable post!
Juli
Hi Julie. I get those calls too. Lately I have been getting a bunch of calls of people who say I responded to their ad. I did not respond to any ad. I really hate seeing people waste their money on bad leads.
Great post Melodie! I use to buy bad leads years ago… Good thing I learned free generation methods! 🙂 -Joe
